Identification Requirements for Signatories to Accounts

Under Australian Government legislation, all Approved Deposit-taking Institutions (ADIs) must enforce certain procedures to prove identity when you:

  • open a new savings, investment or loan account
  • have a supplementary card issued
  • become a signatory to an account

When you join Cape Credit Union, you will be opening an account, so we must complete a full check of your identity.

Documents provided as proof of identity must be either originals or certified copies of the originals. All documents must be in the full name under which you wish to operate your accounts. Following are examples of acceptable documents.

Adults 18 years and over

Either one of:

  • Passport, or
  • Driver's Licence, or
  • Proof of Age Card

Other documents that can be used in combination include but are not limited to Birth certificate, Citizenship Certificate, Centrelink or Government Benefit Card, Tax Office Assessment, Electoral Enrollment Card.

Juniors under 18 years

  • Birth Certificate
  • Letter from school principal on official letterhead confirming enrollment

Combination of approved documentation as listed for adults
